The Wellston Bike Path

More than just a walk in the park ...

The Wellston to Lake Alma Bike Path, opened in December 2003, is 1.8 miles long, and, when combined with the bike path around Lake Alma, a round trip from Wellston and around Lake Alma will take a rider more than five miles.

The bike path leading to Lake Alma starts on Broadway Street at Pride Park and continues north toward the Wellston Water Plant, crossing near the intersection of State Routes 93 and 349, before adjoining the bike path around Lake Alma.

The total construction cost was $512,000, which included rehabilitating an historical truss bridge across Raccoon Creek. Donations from organizations and businesses helped to pay for the matching funds for grants from the Federal Highway Administration from funds specifically designated for bike path projects.

The bike path is maintained by the Wellston Parks & Recreation Department.

The Wellston Bike Path was constructed along an old railroad line. Additional grant money is available if local matching funds can be secured.
