Scot Sturgill is
a lifelong Wellston resident and has been employed by the city
of Wellston as Parks & Recreation Director for eight years.
In 2004, Scot became the first fulltime Parks & Recreation
Director in Wellston, which also officially created Jackson
County's first fulltime city recreation department. Prior to
accepting the fulltime position, Scot worked for the Jackson
YMCA as a program director, and at Splashdown Water Park as
a lifeguard.
Scot has extensive recreation
management experience, having played almost every major sport
in school, serving as a coach or an official in basketball,
baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer, supervising the player
drafts for all youth league sports, managing the Wellston City
Pool for five years, and overseeing the landscaping and maintenance
of all our city parks, ball fields, and the Wellston Bike Path.
Scot is the NSA World
Series Director of the statewide softball tournament, and he
is the Southeastern Junior High Director of Softball, with over
40 teams throughout the region participating each season.
Scot is a "hands
on" manager and works with city and school officials, recreation
board members, local businesses, and with parents and children
to address both short term and long range goals of the Wellston
Parks & Recreation Department. He is highly involved with
ongoing renovations at the City Pool, finishing the General
Mills sports complex, planning the new Football/Soccer Stadium
complex, and the long range goal of building a full service
indoor recreation center in Wellston.
